Do you feel safe?

Well, the Administration believes we are..or at least their trucking program is.
Lou Dobbs seems to think this is shit too! With the Administration's lack of consideration for the safety of American people, it amazes me that they believe they have all the answers!
This weekend we all will be celebrating Labor Day. It is the one American holiday that celebrates workers and here we are again being undermined by the Bush administration.
Thanks to Teamsterpower we learned more about this subject back in March when Congress first acted.
A one-year demonstration project would allow 100 Mexican motor carriers full access to U.S. roads. It can begin as soon as the inspector general certifies that safety and inspection plans and facilities are sufficient to ensure the Mexican trucks are as safe as U.S. trucks.
Congress doesn't feel these trucks should be allowed on our roads because they don't meet the basic mininum safety standards. Jesse J. Holland notes:
The union said it has been told by officials in the Transportation Department's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that the first Mexican trucks will be coming across the border on Saturday.
Feel safe yet?
Well, Mary Peters thinks you are.
The East Bay Bicycle Coalition didn't agree with Mary Peters...neither do I. Mary Peter's is nuts and believes that we should trust what she thinks is safe regarding Mexican truck drivers on our roads.
It seems the Administration Apologists are excited about going to Wal-Mart for "savings".
Supporters of the plan say letting more Mexican trucks on U.S. highways will save American consumers hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Administration thinks they have everything worked out regarding the safety of this program, the Sierra Club disagrees...
Joining the Teamsters in seeking the emergency stay were the Sierra Club and Public Citizen. "Before providing unconditional access throughout the country to tens of thousands of big rigs we know little to nothing about, we must insure they meet safety and environmental standards," Sierra Club executive director Carl Pope said.
What do you think? Tell these folks how you feel about their "safety" plans.
